We're going on a hunt...

For this week's activity we are working on zoo animal vocabulary.

I had some plastic eggs leftover from Easter. I thought Easter egg hunts are so much fun why not do it again. First we read "Goodnight Gorilla" by Peggy Rathmann. Next we colored some zoo animal pictures and discussed their names. Following the discussion, we worked with a zoo animal puzzle and labeled and requested the pieces. For the hunt we needed the following:

Materials:

Plastic eggs

Zoo animal pictures

crayons

scissors

This activity targets vocabulary, numbering, prepositions and "where" questions. I cut out the animals we colored and placed one in each Easter egg. I had my client close his eyes and count to ten. As he did this I hid the eggs around the room. He had to find all 10 eggs. Before picking them up he had to tell me where they were using "in, on, under". I provided models for him to use the correct preposition when telling me its location. He then opened the egg and told me the animal that was inside. We had such a blast!
